The call for applications for the 2022 Southern Documentary Fund Production Grant is now open

Durham, (NC) – The Southern Documentary Fund (SDF) is announcing a call for applications for the 2022 SDF Production Grant. The call for production grant proposals is open now and will close on July 18, 2022. Five filmmakers will receive $10,000 each, for a total of $50,000. Applications and submission guidelines are available on the SDF website.

Christopher Everett, SDF Program Manager, says, “Funding is so important to any documentary filmmaker, especially Southern documentary filmmakers. We are thrilled to offer $10,000 each to five filmmakers to help them complete the production of their films.

SDF is hosting two grant information sessions. Each session will provide an overview of the SDF Production Grant, eligibility requirements, and tips for writing a successful application. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the grant process. Briefings will be held Monday, June 27 at 1 p.m. EST and Tuesday, July 12 at 4 p.m. EST via Zoom, and recorded sessions will be made available.

The 2022 SDF Production Grant is made possible through the generous support of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, which this year awarded SDF $250,000 in general operating support to help the programs and mission of the organization to provide essential resources to documentary filmmakers in the South. .
