SMU vs. Tulsa Game Preview
Why SMU will win
The overtaking offense continues to roll.
The team as a whole has some issues and concerns, but the Mustangs are capable of bombing over 300 yards per game, putting pressure on teams to try and keep up. Sometimes it works, and that’s where the mistakes come in.
Tulsa hasn’t faced a whole host of teams that can throw like SMU will, and they usually have big, big problems against the run. Mustangs can run efficiently when needed – they are fine as long as they can increase five meters per run.

Why Tulsa will win
Is starting QB Tanner Mordecai okay? He’s questionable after being knocked out in the 29-27 loss to Cincinnati last week. Preston Stone shows promise, but he’s nowhere near the proven passer that the main man is.
Again, it’s not like Tulsa has faced a who’s who of passing teams, but the pass defense is technically the best in the AAC. And again, the stats are skewed one way because everyone is running on the Golden Hurricane D, but the secondary is able to stop teams from pitching when they want.
Offenses only hit 53% of their passes against this group, and if it’s Stone under center, the numbers might not be much better.

what’s going to happen
Yeah, SMU is struggling at 2-5, but the losses came from Maryland and UCF on the road and at home against TCU and Cincinnati. None of these errors are glaring.
Tulsa has been far too inconsistent offensively, and the SMU defense needs to take advantage of that by stepping into the backfield against a struggling front line.
It will be a fight, but the Mustangs will squeeze in with the racing game and get to work when needed.
