Game preview between San Diego State and Nevada
Why Nevada will win
Can the passing game do enough to take San Diego State out of its warm and cozy comfort zone?
It’s not an Aztec team that can bombard or go into a semblance of a shootout, but they have a deadly defense that stifles just about every style and every team except⦠Fresno State.
Utah was not Utah, it is now when the Aztecs claimed the shocking victory in mid-September, and so are teams that can pitch. Fresno State has the only offense with a powerful passing play, and Jake Haener and his company took the victory 30-20 with 247 passing yards.

Why the State of San Diego will win
Yes, Nevada has the defensive front that should be able to withstand the run, but they haven’t faced a lot of trying teams. And why? This is because the games tend to get out of hand in a hurry against the Wolf Pack and start to pitch to call.
Kansas State was able to run 48 times against Nevada, and that was enough to control the game in a win. Boise State has been pissed off on its 34 carries, but Fresno State has run 30 times for 205 yards and two scores in a win.
No other FBS team has attempted 30 carries against Nevada, and both losses came by allowing more than 200 yards.
San Diego State averages nearly 40 carries per game and averages 193 yards per outing, but …

what’s going to happen
The winner still has work to do, but he will be in control of the West Division title. Considering both teams lost to Fresno State – which is one game behind the two – the loser could be all but eliminated with two conference games to go.
In general, Nevada is too good against the run to get hammered by the San Diego state attack.
Yes, the Aztecs have been excellent on the field with five 200 consecutive rushing yards to start the season, but they haven’t had more than 165 yards in the last four games.
Nevada will get their passing game just enough for San Diego State to start throwing a bit. It won’t be a plus.
