Madisonville, TX – The Woodlands and Midway met for the second time at Madisonville High School. After a 1-point loss, The Woodlands needed a solid performance to stay in the playoffs and force a Game 3 against Midway.
It didn’t start too well for The Woodlands as Saylor Davis loaded up the bases walking a few batters. But in a stroke of luck she was able to retreat halfway in a dugout and prevent an early advance. In the last game, The Woodlands struggled to find the strike zone and walked many hitters.
The Woodlands luck will continue as Alannah Leach and Kaelyn Zusi knocked tanks out of the park late in the 1st inning. Leach brought home 2 and Zusi hit a solo home run to the parking lot. This gave The Woodlands a quick and comfortable lead heading into Round 2.

Unfortunately for The Woodlands, Midway would heat up and rally within 5 runs in the very next round. With a few hits and a 2-run homer, Midway took the lead over The Woodlands. Saylor Davis struggled to find the referee’s strike zone and left the circle before any more runs could be scored. Chesney Davis took over from his sister and retired the rest of the batters in the dugout.
Coach Borths could be heard saying “it’s a long game, we still have time” to the girls as their momentum began to slow.
At the bottom of the 3rd is where Saylor Davis’ name was mentioned again. This time it was cheers and screams as she kicked a bomb off the field with the bases swollen. With the Grand Slam, The Woodlands regained the lead and Saylor redeemed herself.
The Woodlands would stop Midway’s shots and not allow another run for the remainder of the game. In the bottom of the 5th, again, Saylor Davis would hit another nuke out of center field with 1 over. Kaelyn Zusi also hit her second home run of the game and netted another run. This gave The Woodlands a 14-5 lead going into the 6th.
Once again, Saylor Davis hits a nuke out of center field!

The Woodlands shut down Midway and found themselves with 1 point to go to end the game. As Midway intentionally stepped on Saylor Davis, The Woodlands hit a ground ball into the infield and walked, ending the game and forcing Game 3 of the series.
