Ludhiana, December 25

As part of the investigation into the Ludhiana court bombing, police today brought in two detainees on production warrants for questioning. Sources said police also arrested a female constable, believed to be the suspect’s girlfriend, stationed at the office of an SP-ranking officer in Khanna.

The two detainees – Ranjit Singh, alias Cheeta, and Sukhwinder Singh – were incarcerated in the Central Jail here on drug trafficking and explosives recovery cases. Sukhwinder was arrested three years ago with RDX by Khanna Police.

Police sources said that when deceased suspect Gagandeep Singh, a dismissed police chief, was arrested in connection with a drugs case and jailed, he came into contact with the two. They could also be part of Gagandeep’s conspiracy, the sources said.

After Gagandeep was released on bail, they kept in touch with him by phone. They had spent time in the same barracks inside the prison, they added.

“We suspect the two could reveal details about the conspiracy, why Gagandeep brought explosives to court and the intended target. Nothing could be confirmed at this stage,” a senior police official said.

Sources said the female constable’s role had also come under scrutiny, as details of her call suggested she had spoken to the suspect.

Meanwhile, in a raid on the suspect’s house, the National Investigation Agency and the police recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash, laptop etc.

Court Naib, thana munshi questioned

Several people, including the serving munshi (thana clerk), court naib of Ludhiana Courts, a bank employee and close friends of the deceased who were in contact with the suspect, were also detained for questioning by the police. , sources said.
