The trailer for Hemolymph is here!
Directed and written by newbie Sudarshan Gamare, the hard-hitting Bollywood film is said to tell the story of Abdul Wahid Shaikh, a teacher, who was played by Riyaz Anwar in the film.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of how Wahid’s life changed overnight after he was wrongfully accused in the July 11, 2006 Bombay train bombing case.
Why is this story important?
- Hemolymph is based on real events. In 2006, Wahid was falsely criminalized in the Mumbai train explosion case.
- The series of seven bombings occurred on July 11 on trains on the Western Line commuter section of Western Railway’s Mumbai division. The bombs were detonated in pressure cookers.
- It killed 209 people and injured more than 700.
- 12 people were sentenced.
Possible reason behind choice of title
In biology, hemolymph is basically a liquid equivalent to blood found in most invertebrates like insects, cockroaches, etc.
Symbolically, it means the blood shed by people who are of no importance to society and who are comparable to cockroaches.
It seems that Gamare chose this title to describe how insignificant Wahid’s life is to law enforcement, so they could play with it.
The trailer pretty much gives the whole movie away, but your heart aches when you see the brutal torture of Wahid and his loved ones. In real life, the man had to spend nine years in prison.
To maintain authenticity, Gamare and his set designer Swapnil Surve traveled to the court where the real trial took place and tried to replicate every detail.
