Car bomb explosion kills 2, injures 3 in Kabul on anniversary of US withdrawal


Two people were killed and three others injured in an explosion that rocked Police District 17 in the Afghan capital Kabul, Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor said.

“A Toyota Corolla car, carrying an explosive device, exploded in Police District 17 today afternoon, killing two compatriots and injuring three others,” Nafi added on his Twitter account on Wednesday.

Without providing further details, the official said security personnel reached the area and opened an investigation, Xinhua news agency reported.

The explosion coincided with the first anniversary of the withdrawal of US-led forces from Afghanistan.

The Taliban-led administration marked the first anniversary of the defeat of US forces and their withdrawal from Afghanistan on Wednesday at the former main US military base of Bagram, where the administration showed its military might by holding a parade military.
