NAROWAL: A boy and two women from his family were killed, and another woman and an infant were seriously injured when a ‘toy bomb’ exploded in a house in Matranwani village in Daska tehsil in Sialkot district on Monday .
According to police sources, Abdullah (12), a resident of Matranwani village, found a “toy-like object” while playing in the street. He took the object home and was examining it when it suddenly exploded.
As a result, Abdullah and his relatives Nigina Bibi (25) and Kiran Bibi (40) died instantly, while Nabila Bibi (35) and Maleeha, six months, were seriously injured.
Informed of the incident, a Rescue 1122 team rushed to the scene and transferred the injured to Daska Tehsil headquarters hospital.
Sialkot District Police Officer Muhammad Hassan Iqbal leading a police contingent accompanied by the Civil Defense Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at the scene and gathered information on the explosion, initially described as a “firecracker explosion” by local police.
Khurram Shehzad, a Sialkot district police spokesman, said the explosive material used in the device was being examined by experts to find out what it was.
Rescue 1122 Sources in Sialkot say they were initially told a “hand grenade” explosion claimed the lives of three people.
The police spokesman said Inspector General of Punjab Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan became aware of the incident and requested a report on it.
