Biopic of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, “The Human Bomb” was released in theaters today. The film is directed by South Indian director AMR Ramesh. Actor Darshan Thoogudeep is the main protagonist. The music for the film is given by Sandeep Chowta. The director rose to fame thanks to his second venture Cyanide and biopic on the forest dacoit Veerappan. The film is based on the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi who was the 6th Prime Minister of India. The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, following a suicide bombing in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, in Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday, May 21, 1991.

It was performed by Thenmozhi Rajaratnam, also known as Dhanu. The attack on Rajiv Gandhi was blamed on Sri Lankan militant organization the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). At that time, however, India had just ended its involvement, through the Indian Peacekeeping Force, in the Sri Lankan civil war.

When this incident happened, Rajiv Gandhi was campaigning for the elections in the southern states of India. On May 21, after successfully campaigning in Visakhapatnam, he participated in a campaign rally in Sriperumbudur.

Dhanu, the human bomb also present in the gathering that takes place. She was wearing a belt loaded with RDX explosives tucked under her dress, and as per plan, she pulled the trigger to cause the explosion. In the explosion, fourteen other people were killed alongside Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The assassination was also filmed by a local photographer, whose camera and film were found at the site and the photographer also died in the blast.

Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Indian Prime Minister at the age of 40, in 1984 after the assassination of his mother, Indira Gandhi. Gandhi completed his studies in the United Kingdom and returned to India in 1966. He was a commercial pilot for the state-owned Indian Airlines. This film reveals an untold story about the attack on the late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
