A wanted defendant in the Jalalabad bomb blast case in Punjab last year has been arrested in Bikaner district of Rajasthan, officials said on Sunday.

Gurcharan Singh alias Channa was arrested in a joint operation by bloodhounds belonging to Punjab and Rajasthan police on Friday.

A bomb had exploded in the town of Jalalabad, Fazilka district, in September last year, killing one person.

Police sources said Gurcharan had been working as a laborer in Bikaner for a few months.

Gurcharan was carrying a cash reward of ₹2 lakh which was announced by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigating the case.

The NIA earlier this year filed an indictment against six Khalistan terrorists, including two Pakistanis, for their alleged involvement in the case.

They were charged with violating articles of the Explosive Substances Act; the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act; Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Indian Penal Code before a Special Court of the NIA at SAS Nagar.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had re-registered the case in October last year after it was initially registered at the local police station.
